Peaceful Forest Taiko Drumming & Lion Dance, June 9th, 2026

"In our dojo, our mighty dojo, the Lion speaks tonight..." Tonight we hosted Takumi Kato and his family for a Taiko drumming display and a good fortune Lion dance. Takumi was the 2008 Grand Prize winner of the Tokyo International Taiko Competition and his family were absolutely spectacular. The team is travelling around the United States and is planning to visit each of the fifty states and give 1000 performances. Our dojo was honored to be the first performance in Wyoming and #708 of 1000.

Annual Shoshin Festival, Nationwide Shinsei Sword Cutting Event, Laramie, WY, January 10th, 2026

Well, it was something like 18 degrees in the park this morning, but that did not deter members of our bokken group from taking part in the national festival, and for some, gloves were even an optional extra! As part of the Shoshin Sword Cutting Festival, we joined our brothers and sisters in Shinsei from across the country to usher in the New Year with a spirit of gratitude.

"Shoshin" literally means 'beginner's mind' and the point of the cutting festival is to remind ourselves that whatever we think we know and no matter how far we might think we are along the journey of learning...we are all beginners.
