Well, it was something like 18 degrees in the park this morning, but that did not deter members of our bokken group from taking part in the national festival, and for some, gloves were even an optional extra! As part of the Shoshin Sword Cutting Festival, we joined our brothers and sisters in Shinsei from across the country to usher in the New Year with a spirit of gratitude. 

"Shoshin" literally means 'beginner's mind' and the point of the cutting festival is to remind ourselves that whatever we think we know and no matter how far we might think we are along the journey of learning...we are all beginners.
